Royaltoms Football Club of Lagos, Braveheart Ladies FC and Fortress Ladies FC of Benin have been presented with consolation prizes after crashing out at the group stage of the Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT).
Presenting a cheque of N500, 000 each to the teams, the Permanent Secretary, Edo State Sports Commission, Mrs Sabina Chikere commended the efforts of the teams and urged the players not to relent in their careers.
“You people have done well; I commend you for the spirit of sportsmanship. There is another opportunity next year at the third edition of the tournament where you will put in your best.”
The coach of Royaltoms of Lagos State, Olajide Royal while commending the Edo State First Lady, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, said the tournament has created an opportunity for the girls to showcase their talent.”
According to him, the opportunity will go a long way to encourage more female participation in professional football.
The captain of Braveheart Ladies FC Benin City, Florence Emmanuel also commended Mrs. Betsy Obaseki for the opportunity to participate in the tournament.
The proprietor of Fortress Ladies FC, Aimuagbonrie Jimmy,said “We were able to score a goal this year as against last year when we didn’t score any goal. The improvement in this year’s edition is better. The consolation prize is good and will help solve a lot of problems facing the team.”
