The Botswana High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lt General Louis Fisher, has urged the Nigerian government to export agricultural produce like tomatoes, garlic and ginger to his country.
Fisher made the request at a reception to make the county’s 50th independence anniversary in Abuja at the weekend.
He said there were potential exports which Nigeria could develop in commercial quantity for export, saying  such exports to Botswana were currently non-existent.
“We don’t have tomatoes, ginger and garlic in Botswana. If all these goods get down to us, it will boost Nigeria’s export and equally address the issue of youth unemployment,” he said.
The envoy, however, said both Nigeria and Botswana enjoyed excellent bilateral relations, especially in the education sector.
He said several literatures written by Nigerian authors were recommended for use in Botwana’s high schools.
“For us, Nigeria is a place to be…from the medical field to engineering, Botswana has benefitted a lot from Nigeria,” he added.
Fisher recalled that when Botswana established its second university, a Nigerian professor served as the pioneer vice chancellor.
“In the international arena, we have always looked at Nigeria as a friend and brother. One of the things we must appreciate about Nigeria is the fact that it always comes to the aid of other African countries,” the envoy said.
Fisher said Botswana had witnessed significant infrastructure development since its independence 50 years ago.
