Borno to use ambulances as hospitals in destroyed communities

Daily Trust gathered that about 23 primary healthcare centres in seven local government areas were destroyed by the assailants in recent attacks, heightening fears in many localities on the fate of women and children that may require emergency services.
But Kolo said in the interim, the Emergency Medical Response (EMR) unit of the ministry has been mandated to deliver services to people that live in insurgency prone areas of the state.
She said before the clampdown on health facilities by the insurgents, the state government  procured ambulances that are equipped with medical facilities and accessories for the purpose of saving lives and treatment of emergency cases in rural communities.
“Governor Kashim Shettima has directed the immediate deployment of the ambulances to the affected localities. We are collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of our medical personnel, equipment and patients. There is no going back on our resolve to provide free medical care to children below the age of five and pregnant women living in urban and rural centres of this state,” she said.
Our correspondent reports that many health facilities have been destroyed in Dikwa, Bama, Benisheikh, Damboa, Gulumba and Mafa towns.
