The Borno State Government has said it spent over N9 billion to sponsor 32,000 indigenes under its human development scholarship programmes.
Mallam Bala Isa, the Executive Secretary of the state scholarship board, disclosed this during a press briefing in Maiduguri.
“This year alone, the administration has allocated over N9 billion to sponsor students, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, ICT, and mathematics, for both local and international scholarships,” he said.
He revealed that postgraduate scholarships had also been approved for fields like education, arts, social sciences, humanities, and management sciences.

Governor Babagana Zulum, while addressing the National Youth Council meeting in Maiduguri, highlighted the importance of youth empowerment in nation-building.
He noted that 70% of Nigerians are under the age of 30, emphasising the need for vocational training, scholarships, and entrepreneurial opportunities to drive economic growth and social cohesion.
The governor reiterated his administration’s efforts to transform the lives of youths through various empowerment initiatives, describing them as key to fostering national development.
