Borno: Shehu remained in flooded palace to encourage victims – PDP scribe

Alhaji Idris Durkwa, a prominent figure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governorship aspirant, has praised the Shehu of Borno, Dr Abubakar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi, for his resilience during the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri.

Durkwa made the commendation on Monday during a sympathy visit to the Shehu’s palace, which had been submerged by floodwaters.

Durkwa said Shehu’s decision to remain in his palace despite the flood was a source of inspiration for the affected victims.

“You chose not to move an inch from the palace since it was submerged by the flood, which later receded after four days,” Durkwa noted.

He emphasised Shehu’s role in encouraging the people of Borno to face the calamity with courage and remain in their homes.

Durkwa expressed sympathy for those who lost their lives and for the injured. He offered prayers for the victims and hoped for quick recovery for the injured, while also praying that such a disaster would not befall the region again.

In response, the Shehu of Borno said the flood had completely submerged and destroyed critical infrastructures, including hospitals, markets, schools, residential areas, bridges, and roads, causing widespread devastation in Maiduguri.
