The Borno State government has set up a committee that will regulate operation of tricycles otherwise known as Keke-Napep and commercial vehicles within Maiduguri.

The motor park registration compliance committee would also ensure that, henceforth, all commercial vehicles pick and drop off passengers in government designated motor parks.

Our correspondent yesterday gathered that the committee which was inaugurated yesterday, has already commenced work.

Chairman of the committee, who is also the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Kaka Shehu Lawan, said, “the formation of the committee is necessary to ensure that commercial vehicles moving in and out of the state are known and data of all the passengers must be recorded in their manifests in case of any eventuality”.

He added that enforcing such law would reduce cases of rape, armed banditry, kidnapping and murder as it was government’s primary responsibility to safeguard lives of its citizens.

The committee members include state commissioners, mobile police, Civil Defence Corps, Civilian JTF and representatives of NURTW and RTEAN.
