Borno generates N4bn in four months

In spite of the negative impacts of the COVID-19 restrictions to the general dynamics of business and insurgency coupled with increasing demand on public services, Borno State Government said it has generated over N4 billion as revenue in the first quarter of 2021.

Borno State Internal Revenue Service (BO-IRS) made the disclosure on its Facebook account saying it had “collected N4, 296,859,669.2 between January and March 2021 despite the associated economic downtime and COVID19.”

The service said the first quarter of 2021 collection figures recorded an increase of 123 per cent  when compared to the first quarter of 2020 in which the sum of N3, 275,589,285.92 was generated.

“The above modest performance could not have been achieved without the support of our taxpayers, members of the public and political authorities in Borno State,” the service said.

BO-IRS further appealed to its numerous taxpayers to ‘file and pay’ their taxes and other statutory payments ‘as and when due’ as revenue collections were an important source of public sector finance.

The service said effective April 2021; it would collect tax and non-tax (levies, fees, charges etc) from all agencies including LGAs in Borno State courtesy of the harmonised revenue law 2020 as amended.
