Government sources told Sunday Trust that some commissioners were shocked when security men told them they were under instructions from the governor not to allow them entry into the multi-purpose hall at the government house, Maiduguri where the dinner took place Friday night.
The commissioners, it was learnt, “were surprised, disappointed and devastated on realising that as members of the state executive council, they were barred from attending a dinner they approved funds for”.
When contacted, Sheriff’s Director of Press Affairs, Usman Chiroma said the dinner was for visitors who were in the state on the governor’s invitation for the anniversary.
Chiroma said attendance was strictly by invitation and only those invited were given access into the venue.
He said because the venue was small, there had to be restrictions. The spokesman did not say whether the governor gave instruction to bounce his commissioners, as, according to him, he was not at the venue.
A government official who pleaded anonymity said the governor could not handed down such order. He said it was a mere understanding to allow visitors enjoy the night because the venue was too small for the turn out.
