The Borno government has barred non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from distributing food or aids to resettled communities in the state.
Some of the NGOs said that the measure taken could aggravate insufficiency of balanced diet among people in the resettled communities.
The ban, issued in a circular dated December 6 and signed by Governor Babagana Zulum, was addressed to humanitarian organisations and development partners.
The government in the circular said blocking aid to resettled communities was part of an effort towards “empowering people and giving them dignity to buy their own food”.
“No partner organisation, local, national or international shall henceforth be allowed to embark on distribution of food and non-food items in any of our newly resettled communities across the state.
“Food distribution will only be allowed in internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps and IDPs in host communities for now,” the circular said.
