The last hour relocation of voters to Damaturu from Gujba local government area has affected 52,361 registered voters in Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Yobe State.
The Presidential collation officer of Gujba local government area, Dr Madu Adamu Gadaka, while declaring the presidential election result for the local government, said only 13,669 voted out of the 660,300 registered voters.
According to the result submitted to the collation officer, Professor Abubakar Gundiri, the total votes cast is 13,526 out of which the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), President Muhammadu Buhari pulled 12,227 votes against 325 scored by Atiku Abubakar of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Of the total number of votes cast, 12,891 are valid and 635 remained invalid.
It will be recalled that Daily Trust reported that voters in area have threatened to boycott election if the centre was relocated to Damaturu.
They accused elites from the area of mounting pressure on INEC and Heads of Security Agencies to relocate the centre to Damaturu for their own selfish interests.
Gujba local government area had suffered Boko Haram insurgents attacks; the most recent, on the botched presidential election date on Saturday claimed the lives an officer and three soldiers of 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni Yadi.
