At least 3,900 children were killed, 7,300 maimed in 3 years during confrontations between Boko Haram insurgents and security forces.
This was disclosed by the FCT Chief Judge, Justice Ishaq Bello in his keynote speech at the 3rd Annual Secondary Schools’ Human Right Summit, organized by Sterling Centre for Law and Development, in Abuja, yesterday.
Bello who was represented by the FCT Chief Magistrate, Mabel T. Segun-Bello said suicide attack was the second leading cause of child casualties in the country.
“The UN Secretary-General in a report on Children and Armed Conflict in Nigeria noted that between January 2013 and December 2016, confrontations between the Boko Haram group and security forces resulted in at least 3,900 children killed and 7,300 more maimed.”
According to him, the United Nations estimates that 1,500 schools were destroyed since 2014 with at least 1,280 casualties among teachers and students.
