The Hayat Foundation has urged wealthy individuals and organisations to come to the aid of widows and orphans especially those affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east.
The Founder of the Hayat Foundation and wife of Kogi State Governor, Hajiya Amina Oyiza Yahaya Bello, made the plea yesterday in Abuja, while hosting 16 students who are beneficiaries of 1-Ummah Initiative education scholarship, including five of them who are being sponsored by the foundation.
According to her, it is in the interest of the nation that this vulnerable people are taken care of so that they can contribute to national development.
She said that having rose from a less privilege life herself, she understand the challenges of vulnerable people in the society, especially children and girls, hence her determination to offer full scholarship to the five beneficiaries.
Speaking earlier, the Ameer (Leader) of 1-Ummah Initiative, Ustaz Abubakar Siddiq Muhammad, said the 1-Ummah Scholarship Programme for Less Privileged (SILP) specifically target orphaned and vulnerable children, especially those affected by the Boko Haram crisis in the north-east with financial, material and psycho-social support.
“One of the things that made us to want to partner with the Hayat Foundation was due to their sharing our vision of assisting the needy especially those affected by the insurgency in the north-east. We are happy when the founder (Mrs Amina Yahaya Bello) graciously offered to sponsor five of the children that we are taking care of in scholarship throughout their education careers. Once you have the ability, you have the responsibility, to help the needy especially the less privilege,” Muhammad said.
