Suspected members of Boko Haram Wednesday launched attack in Geidam, the headquarters of Geidam LGA, 200 kilometers away from Damaturu, the state capital.
Sources said gun battle between dozens of terrorists and military operatives raged up till 9pm as residents scampered for safety.

It was not clear at press time how many people were killed or the damage inflicted on the town. Boko Haram fighters had attacked Geidam many times in the last 11 years, destroying public buildings and other symbols of authority.
“sometimes they steal foodstuff from markets,” resident Aliyu Mohammed said.
The State police Public Relation Officer, Abdulkarim Dungus, told journalists that there was a security breach in Geidam.
