The creation of a homeland security agency to harmonize the activities of public safety and security departments has been advocated by a security expert, Kabir Adamu.
Adamu, an international security consultant made this known recently in a position paper made available to Daily Trust.
He argued that the agency on creation would also harmonise activities including risk and emergency management, protection of critical infrastructure and key assets, as well as border and transportation agencies amongst others.
Adamu said the agency would provide the platform for a concerted national effort that would ensure public and private sector organisations enhance their resilience.
Adamu tasked government to extend the involvement of the three intelligence organisations in the country as well as those of the three arms of the military in the counter insurgency and counter terrorism efforts.
“Specifically these organisations should be given concise tasks similar to that given the military in 2015. The tasks should cover the source of funding and weaponry of the insurgent groups, the location of the leaders of the group and the abducted Chibok girls,” he stated.
