The residents, who spoke to our correspondent at the weekend, alleged that the government was paying lip service to the security problem which has been lingering for four years now. They therefore called on the president to temporarily relocate to the state and bring the situation under control.
Bukar Danladi, a civil servant said: “I think they are not telling the president the truth about the real situation, he should relocate to this place and find solution to the problem or better still order his service chiefs to relocate here.”
Another resident, Emmanuel Bulus, who spoke in the same vein, wondered what will happen to defenceless citizens if the insurgents can successfully raid military barracks.
“I think our leaders are not being sincere about what is happening in this state, all they are thinking now is the coming 2015 general elections,” he added.
A road side trader at the Baga road market, Mohammed Gulumba said: “We are made to believe that the military is winning the war against the insurgents but what happened in the past weeks especially on Friday in Bama have made me to think otherwise. The authorities should please find solution to the problem because the people of this state have suffered enough.”
The insurgents had on Friday attacked the 202 Tank Battalion barracks in Bama town, about 78 kilometers from Maiduguri.
The attack which occurred less than three weeks after a similar one on the Air Force base and 333 Artillery Regiment in Maiduguri was said to have been the worst so far and the biggest blow on military.
