The Bank of Industry (BoI) has disbursed over N13 billion to 232 women owned enterprises in Nigeria.
BoI’s Group Head, Gender Business, Mrs Adebisi Ajayi disclosed this yesterday at the 2017 International Women’s Day celebration with the theme : “Promoting Bold Footprints in Business,” organised by the bank.
She said businesses done by women have created over 57,850 jobs nationwide, adding that the bank has set up a desk which focuses only on women entrepreneurs.
“Women have played vital role in the development of Nigerian economy and BoI has increased women and youth entrepreneurship capacity by encouraging the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to boost businesses,” Ajayi stated.
The BoI Divisional Head, Large Enterprises, Mr Joseph Babatunde, in his remarks ,said that access to capital is a major challenge facing women entrepreneurs.
He noted that empowerment of women entrepreneurs would increase global Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and lead to stable homes.
