In its effort to avert the reoccurrence of the recent boat mishap in Gilma river that claimed the lives of 15 teenage girls, Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (JISEMA) has planned to procure 300 life jackets for distribution to water way users.
The Executive Secretary of the agency, Yusuf Sani Babura made the disclosure on a telephone interview yesterday, saying his agency had planned to distribute the 300 life Jackets under the first phase.
He added that his agency had discovered that most of the canoes used by the affected communities were very old, saying on this reason, his agency donated two new canoes.
“We are going to take the statistics of all the crossing points along the river water ways in the state for distribution of life Jackets. We are going to launch the distribution of the life jackets next week for all water ways users. We will make it a law that whoever travels in canoe must put on a life jacket.” He stated.
