The Ulama and non-government organisations (NGOs) in Kano under the auspices of Coalition of Ulama and NGOs in Kano State have expressed support for the death verdict on Kano singer for blasphemy against the Holy Prophet (SAW).
The support came in a statement issued by the coalition chairman, Professor Musa Muhammad Borodo, which said the prompt arrest and prosecution of the suspect saved the situation.
- Blasphemy: I won’t waste time to sign execution of offender — Ganduje
- Blasphemy: Islam is different from Christianity
It added that the coalition is saddened by the unfortunate and insensitive commentaries and the reaction of some “so-called” human rights activists, Amnesty International, and some interest groups who faulted the ruling on the case without recourse to the extant law applicable to the offender and the environment the offence was committed.
The statement also commended the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for expressing his willingness to respect the law and the sensibility of the people he leads.
It could be recalled that, a Kano Upper Shari’a Court has sentenced 22-year-old Yahaya Sharif Aminu to death by hanging after finding him guilty of blaspheming Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
