Bizman constructs N400m road in Katampe

Residents of Katampe, a suburb bordering Maitama and Jahi districts of the FCT, are excited over an access road constructed by a businessman and philanthropist, Abdulhamid Mahmud.

Mahmud, who spoke to Daily Trust said the gesture was part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and that the effort would complement government’s infrastructural drive.

He said, “Being a businessman particularly with focus on developing properties, it became necessary for me to construct the access road as I have purchased property in the community and there is no access road. You can’t invest in your property when there is no access road.

“The road is three kilometres and it passes through Katampe Village, but it has not been accessed by vehicles for years and the residents suffer before they reach their homes, especially in the rainy season.”

“In addition to lack of access road, they lack good water and electricity, as such we provided a borehole for them because we know government cannot do it alone.”

Mahmud also said the FCT Administration (FCTA) had been doing its best to provide infrastructure across the territory; but that it might not have accurate information about what is happening in the suburbs.

He added that the initial estimated amount for the project was N400m, but that due to the bad nature of the soil, it incurred extra expenses.

He assured that everything would be concluded in a few days.
