Bird strike forces diversion of Owerri-Lagos bound flight

An Air Peace flight heading to the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos from Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri has suffered a bird strike.

The flight P47159 was however diverted to Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA), Rivers State where it landed safely while passengers were disembarked.

The spokesman of the airline, Mr Stanley Olisa, who confirmed the development, said the bird strike happened just a few minutes after take-off.

He said the bird strike “seriously affected the parameters of one of the engines and the Pilot-in-Command had to divert to Port-Harcourt and safely landed the aircraft while the passengers disembarked normally.”

“We have dispatched a rescue team and aircraft to airlift the passengers of the affected flight.

“Air Peace is committed to the highest standards of safety and will never compromise on this,” he said.
