Officials of Port Health Service, Agricultural Quarantine Service, Directorate of State Security (DSS) and National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) monitored the exercise.
Items destroyed include cartons of poultry products, bags of expired flour and used textile. The items were intercepted by Customs operatives attached to Seme Area Command, Lagos, while they were being smuggled into the country from Benin Republic on January 24, 2015.
The Public Relations Officer, Seme Area Command, Ernest Olottah, said the command also made seizure of sugar, paints, and bags of rice.
“We first poured caustic soda on the poultry products before burying them to hasten decomposition and deter scavengers from digging them up for sale or consumption,” he said.
