Nigerian Institute of Trypanosomiasis and Onchocerciasis Research (NITR), Professor Mohammed Mamman, has said.
Speaking at the 27th annual international conference of Biotechnology Society of Nigeria in Kaduna, yesterday, Mamman stated that biotechnology suited developing countries, adding that Nigeria should lead the continent in the field owing to its comparative advantages in capital and intellectual resources.
He said: “Nigeria, like other developing countries, is having problems of accepting biotechnology but the world is moving fast and Nigeria needs to move faster so that it can catch up with other nations.”
Earlier in his welcome address, the President of Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, Professor James C. Ogbonna, said that starvation has remained a very serious problem in Nigeria in spite of the previous efforts made by past and present administrations to increase agricultural productivity in the country.
