Bilikisu Yusuf, Dangote’s mother, others inducted into women’s Hall of Fame

Late veteran female newspaper editor, Hajiya Bilikisu Yusuf and mother of business mogul, Aliko Dangote, Hajia Mariya Sanusi Dantata, are among 22 women just inducted into the Nigerian Women Hall of Fame by the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD).

Hajia Bilikisu was a renowned editor who died during the 2015 hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia.

Hajiya Mariya is an industrialist and unrivalled philanthropist who was nominated for her care for the poor. She feeds an average of 5000 people a day and supports women and youth empowerment.

The Nigerian Women Hall of Fame was set up as a national repository to document and celebrate every success that has been or is achieved by Nigerian women and girls.

The wife of the president, Hajia Aisha Buhari who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Hajia Hajo Sani while unveiling photographs of the inductees, advised them to mentor the younger generation.

Speaking at the induction ceremony with the team, “Celebrating Icons of Hope” in Abuja, the Director General, NCWD, Mrs. Mary Ekpere-Eta, said recognising the women formed an important aspect of her leadership philosophy of reviving the long held traditions of the centre which had waned over time, adding that it was last celebrated in 2007 with 27 women inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Other inductees include late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, Dr Stella Ameyo Adadevoh, Alhaja Abibat Mogaji, Barr. Oby Nwankwo.

Others are; Mma Regina Achi Nentui, lyom Josephine Anenih, Senator Oluremi Tinubu (OON), Senator Binta Garba, Dr Stella Okoli, Prof Adenike Osofisan, Mrs. Priscilla Ekwueme Eleje, Mrs. Adebimpe Bologun, Iyalode Alaba Lawson, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, Chief Nike Okundaye and Mo Abudu.
