The heavy presence of the security personnel in Bichi, one of the newly created emirates in Kano, did not deter some of the residents who thronged the Emir’s palace for the wedding of his daughter.
Zahra, one of the emir’s children, is getting married to Yusuf, President Muhammadu Buhari’s only son, in a few hours from now.
The wedding Fatiha is billed to take place at the Bichi Central mosque.
When Daily Trust correspondents got to the town, which is 30 kilometres away from Kano city, some residents said they have been hanging around since as early as 6am because they do not want to miss any moment of the epoch-making event.
Daily Trust also observed a heavy deployment of security in the town with officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) taking positions around the Central Mosque.
Men of the Nigerian police force were also sighted at different areas while several of their vehicles were patrolling as some dignitaries arrives.
In Kano city, our reporters also noticed heavy deployment of police officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) at almost all the junctions and roundabouts that dotted the commercial centre of the country.
One of the heavily fortified roads in Kano city is the Katsina road, the only road that leads to Bichi town from Kano city.
At the ever busy Hajj camp and Triumph junctions along the road, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have taken over control of the traffic from the officials of the Kano state Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) while policemen have been assisting them along with the KAROTA officials.
