A Federal High Court in Abuja has separated the trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu from four others charged along with him.
Justice Binta Nyako separated the cases on Tuesday after listening to the application by the prosecution counsel, Magaji Labaran who said that will enable progress to be made in the matter.
All the defence lawyers did not object to the application having already filed applications seeking to sever their clients to enable their cases be determined speedily following the continued absence of Kanu in court.
Kanu is facing trial alongside Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawuisi, a maintenance engineer with the MTN, and Bright Chimezie on five count-charges of treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms, and criminal defamation.
