The management of Benue State University (BSU) in Makurdi has reviewed upward conditional charges for new students and graduates.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Msugh Moses Kembe, told journalists that the review was meant to shore up the internally generated revenue of the university in order to meet up “ever increasing cost of running the school”.
“We sought and obtained the approval of the Benue State government for an upward review of conditional charges. I wish to lay emphasis here that this review only affects the new intakes and graduates. Returning students are not in any way affected by the review,” he said.
Kembe said the management of the institution has commenced award of scholarships to best performing students in various disciplines following the approval of the Council.
He added that the idea is to motivate students for excellence.
In a similar development, Governor Samuel Ortom, while inaugurating the new council of the university, charged members to reposition the institution so that it could discharge its mandate better.
Ortom stressed that the repositioning included a revision of the university law in line with the guidelines of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“I charge you to be fair, firm and progressive in your leadership. Be above board in your operations and work strictly in accordance with the university law and NUC guidelines,” he stated.
