The Benue State government has granted approval to a private company known as Oil Response Limited to build and operate the first integrated renewable energy plant in the state.
Governor Samuel Ortom on Tuesday announced the decision to partner the company which specialises in bio-gas and organic fertiliser to provide alternative source of energy.
The governor directed his commissioners for Agriculture, Trade and Investment as well as the Special Adviser on Special Duties to synergise with the company to ensure commencement of the project.
He also directed that 100 hectares of land be made available for the project as part of government’s contribution for the smooth take off of the plant.
Earlier, the company’s director of technical operations, Mr. Didi Opuiyo, said the project will cost $250million.
Opuiyo also told the governor that the construction stage of the project would generate 500 direct jobs, 1000 indirect jobs and that when fully completed it would provide 250 permanent jobs as well as 1500 indirect employments.
