The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Sir James Iorpuu, has hailed the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) for providing a utility vehicle for his agency.

Iorpuu, who made this known on Thursday while receiving the vehicle, noted that the international body recently facilitated the recruitment of staff to manage not only the Cameroonian refugees in Ikyogen, but all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.

He said, “The collaboration between BSEMA and UNHCR exemplifies the profound impact that can be achieved through collective efforts. It is a shining example of how partnerships can transform challenges into opportunities, fostering hope and rebuilding lives.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to UNHCR for their continuous support to the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). Today, the donation of an operational vehicle signifies more than just a means of transportation. It is a lifeline that connects us to those who depend on our swift response in times of crisis.

“We are receiving a brand new specialised emergency response operational vehicle from the UNHCR following our request for the replacement of the damaged vehicle as a result of the accident during my first official visit with my team to Jos, Plateau State, shortly after I assumed office.

“Sadly, the accident which took place on 26th June, 2023, in Nasarawa Egon LGA of Nasarawa State not only damaged the vehicle beyond repair but also claimed the life of my police orderly.”
