The Benue State Action Committee on COVID-19 has sent back 12 almajirai to their home State of Jigawa after they tested negative for COVID-19.
Our correspondent reports that this is the second time the committee would be repatriating youths, who allegedly sneaked into the State.
About two weeks ago, 58 youths suspected to have been trafficked into Makurdi, the Benue State capital, were sent back to their home States of Bauchi and Katsina.
Chairman of the State COVID-19 committee and Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, who was on ground to bid the youths fare well, explained that they (youths) were taken into isolation eight days ago by a task force following credible intelligence.
Abounu said the samples of the youths were taken for test and that all the results returned negative.
He said, with their certificates of medical status issued to them by the committee, they were on Wednesday provided with a vehicle to return to their Jigawa State of origin.
The deputy governor also stressed, while addressing journalists in Makurdi at the port of departure on the need for residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons in their environment to the committee.
