Benue: Police nab robbers in military uniform

The police in Benue State have arrested five suspected armed robbers terrorising travellers on the Makurdi-Lafia highway.

Police spokesperson in the state, SP Catherine Anene, on Monday, said that the apprehension of one suspect, Tyolumun Aver, who dressed in military uniform, led to the arrest of four others.

She said, “On 30/1/2023, one Tyolumun Aver, also known as Rugged, was arrested at North Bank, Makurdi, dressed in military uniform at night. During investigation, it was discovered that Aver was impersonating to carry out nefarious acts in the area. The following persons were also arrested in connection with the case: Isaac Sefa, Saaior Tunaga, Iorpenda Nature and Tyolumun Boniface.”

Anene listed the items recovered from the suspects to include a Dane gun, cartridges, military camouflage uniforms and accessories, black Special Forces uniforms, forged military identity cards and other operational materials.
