Benue: Police kill 2, arrest another in gun battle

The police in Benue State have killed two suspected criminals and arrested one other during a gun battle at Tse Nom in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. 

Benue Police spokesperson, Catherine Anene Monday said detectives were detailed to trail and arrest the suspects following an attack on mourners at Imande Abur village, Mbategh council ward in Logo on November 13, 2021, during which four mourners were killed.  

Anene said the police team had, on Sunday at about 5am while trailing the suspects, stormed a criminal hideout at Tse Nom in Ukum LGA.

She noted that on sighting the police, the hoodlums engaged them in an intense gun duel but were overpowered by the police.  

“Three suspects were arrested with gunshot injuries and were rushed to General Hospital, Ugba for treatment. Two of the suspects have been confirmed dead by a doctor while one is responding positively to treatment. Corpses of the deceased suspects have been deposited at the hospital morgue. 

“Items recovered from them include; one (1) AK47 rifle loaded with five rounds of live ammunition, one locally-made G3 rifle loaded with four rounds of live ammunition, assorted charms, knives and one motorcycle,” she said.
