The Benue State government has petitioned the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security Service (DSS) over an alleged rape of some female students in a federal government-owned institution in the state.
This is coming on the heels of an alleged molestation of girls at the said institution, Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Otukpo, in Benue State.
It was gathered that a staff member of the school was recently accused of raping a 16-year-old female SSS 3 student while there are also rumours that some other girls in the institution had faced similar fate.
The staff member, according to sources, had already been suspended by the school authority over the said allegation.
A human right activist, Julie Ooja, told our correspondent that she tried to take the case up but the school authority said it was being handled administratively.
“Our hands were tied; we couldn’t do much because the ministry refrained us and the parents didn’t give us a lee way to match it on.”
However, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Mike Gusa, said at a press conference in Makurdi, that the state government had taken up the matter by asking the appropriate government institution to investigate the case.
“We have written a letter of complaint to the police and the Director of SSS in the state to carry out a discreet investigation into the matter and verify the veracity of the case.’’
