The members of the newly inaugurated State Working Committee (SWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State were on Friday denied access to the party’s secretariat in Makurdi.
Our correspondent reports that they had arrived at the office to receive handover notes from the outgoing Caretaker State Working Committee, but the secretariat was found locked.
The building, located on No. 1 Ochagwu Lawani Street, has served as the state headquarters of the PDP for years.
But as the new executives sought to begin administrative tasks ahead of Saturday’s local government elections, they were unable to gain entry, with no security personnel present to explain the situation.

State Chairman of the party, Chief Ezekiel Adaji, expressed frustration over the incident, noting that despite multiple efforts to contact relevant officials, no clear explanation was provided.
Adaji revealed that they had been advised to avoid the area for security reasons.
He emphasised that despite the setback, the PDP leadership would consult party stakeholders to secure an alternative venue to continue their preparations for the elections, expressing confidence about the PDP’s readiness for the polls.
“We are very prepared, and this is a PDP state. We are committed to removing the current administration from Government House,” Adaji said.
