Officials of the Benue State Ministry of Health and Human Services are currently monitoring a second case of suspected monkey pox, Daily Trust has confirmed.
The first case of a female victim suspected to have been infected with monkey pox is still being treated at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi.
State Director of Public Health, Dr. Terna Kur, told our correspondent in Makurdi on Tuesday that a second case of monkey pox was under observation but the symptom not ‘classical.’
"We are observing the patient. It’s a contact to the first case. we have not yet confirmed the first case to be monkey pox due to delay beyond our control from the research centre where samples were sent to," he said.
Kur however noted that the first patient presently receiving medical attention at the BSUTH is doing well and responding to treatment.
Our correspondent reports that the first patient was moved from her home at the Gboko area of the state last week Wednesday after medical personnel earlier deployed by the state Ministry of Health found her with symptoms suspected to be monkey pox.
Meanwhile, the state’s Director of Health has said that the second suspected case had contact with the first patient and now under observation of the health officials as further investigation to confirm the suspicion is underway.
