The Member of the Benue State House of Assembly representing Gboko East Constituency, Mrs Beckie Orpin, has called on the state government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector.
Mrs Orpin made the call yesterday when she flagged off a deworming exercise targeted at over 10,000 children in her constituency in Gboko LGA.
She said that the deworming exercise which covered the three areas of Mbayion, Yandev and Ipav, was part of her pet project for child healthcare which was the focal point of her legislative agenda.
The legislator decried poor nutrition and access to quality healthcare as being impediments to the growth of children in developing countries, stressing that every child had the right to survival, as well as live out their full potential.

She said, “Government has the responsibility to provide for the child the best attainable health. A system of support should be made for them to develop their full potential. In fact, a state of emergency should be declared by the government in the health sector.”
