Benue Killings: IG flouts Buhari”s directives – CSO

Civil Society Organization known as Transparency Peace Initiative has said the Inspector ‎General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris has flouted President Muhammadu Buhari’s directives that he should relocate to Benue State to contain the killings in the state.

The CSO also asked the IGP to  come clean on the alleged complicity of the police and its alleged negligence which it claimed has worsened the herdsmen and farmers crisis across the country.

In a communique issued last night ‎by its National Coordinator Mr. Sunday Alakho, at the end of its emergency meeting in Abuja, the Civil Society Organisation decried what it termed lack of commitment by the Police in tackling the crisis in Benue, saying the IG only went to the state and returned to Abuja, contrary to Buhari’s directive that he should relocate to the state.

‎The CSO described as callous and insensitive, the IG’s initial description of the mass murder of innocent villagers by herdsmen in the state as a mere communal clash.

The Organisation asked the security agencies to investigate and arrest those behind the attacks in the state, other states of the federation and bring them to book.

It appealed to the IG to impartially execute his presidential mandate by ensuring the safe return of displaced villagers who were in IDP camps to their homes and to ensure the safety of their lives and property in their communities.
