Benue IDP macheted in farm

Gunmen have reportedly killed a 45-year-old Internally Displaced Person (IDP) at his farm along Tse Ukume road in Mbachohon Council Ward of Gwer West Local Government Area in Benue State.

The deceased, Tali Tyosoo, a native of Tse Gerbe in the same Mbachohon council ward was said to have been displaced from his village before taking shelter at the Agagbe IDPs camp in Gwer West LGA with his family.

A former Agagbe IDP camp manager, Ibaah Jacob, told our correspondent that the deceased was attacked by the gunmen believed to be armed infiltrators on Sunday about 2pm while he was working in the farm alongside his second wife.

Jacob said, “He was displaced from his village in Tse Gerbe, but since the farm was not far from Agagbe town and due to the hunger affecting his polygamous family, he decided to farm there. The land is located less than a kilometer away from Agagbe.”

He narrated further that the deceased’s second wife, Mrs Tyosoo Dorcas, 25, explained that while she and her husband were working at the farm, about 10 armed strange men suddenly appeared carrying guns and cutlasses.

Jacob said the woman further explained that they began shooting at her husband and chasing him and that when he eventually fell, they used their cutlases and butchered him.

The corpse of the deceased has been recovered according to the ex-camp manager and brought to the Agagbe camp where his family is sheltered.

Police spokesperson for Benue Command, SP Catherine Anene, did not respond to calls and a text message put through her telephone for confirmation of the incident.
