Benue govt withdraws case against Tsav

The Benue State government has withdrawn a criminal complaint it brought before a court sitting in Makurdi against the Public Complaints Commissioner in charge of Benue State, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav and his Personal Assistant, Torkuma Uke for conspiracy and forging of government documents.

Daily Trust reports that at the hearing of the case on Thursday, the counsel to the Benue State government, Andrew Wombo, told the court that the accused person, Tsav has publicly apologised to the Governor of Benue State that he was  misled by the source of his information.

Wombo told the court that since Tsav has already apologised for his actions, his client, the Benue State government wished to withdraw the  criminal charges of forgery and conspiracy against him (Tsav).

He therefore made an oral application to discontinue with the case against the former Lagos State Commissioner of Police,  Alhaji Tsav.

Counsel to Tsav, Anthony Agada, did not object to the submission of the plaintiff’s lawyer.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Dennis Ingya thereafter granted the application of Wombo by striking out the case.

Earlier, the Benue State government had filed criminal charges of forgery and conspiracy against Tsav for forging documents in his defense in a civil proceeding before the  Chief Magistrate Court  1, where he is  charged for injurious falsehood, arising from a letter he wrote in June 2016 titled,  "Whistle blowing: Stagnation of Benue State", and wherein he accused the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom of corruption.

Tsav however apologized in a letter he wrote last week to Governor Ortom, which was copied to the Tor Tiv, Professor James Ayatse and copied to anti-graft agencies and was made  available to the press.
