Benue governor, Ortom gets COVID-19 test result

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu, as well as the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, David Olofu, have all tested negative for coronavirus.

Ortom had, on Thursday morning, taken the coronavirus test in order to ascertain his status.

It was in swift response to Daily Trust’s lead story of Thursday, titled: “COVID-19: Status of 20 Nigerian governors unknown“.

Spokesman to the governor, Terver Akase, in a press statement on Saturday morning, noted that his principal had encouraged other Benue people to voluntarily go for the COVID-19 test.

Ortom, in the statement, commended the State Action Committee on Coronavirus and all other individuals and organizations for making selfless contributions towards eradicating the pandemic.

He expressed delight that, of all the persons so far tested, there is no fresh positive case of COVID-19 in the state aside the first confirmed one.

The governor, therefore, urged the people to continue to observe personal hygiene by frequently washing their hands with soap, using sanitizers and maintaining social distancing, to avoid contracting the disease.

He assured Benue people that his administration will not relent in its drive to prevent the virus from spreading within the state.

 

Coronavirus in Nigeria

The coronavirus disease has continued its spread in Nigeria with 30 cases reported on Friday alone.

Last Friday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) put the total number of coronavirus case in the country as 210.

However, 25 patients have recovered and discharged.
