The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, on Tuesday said Benue State ranks endemic for human trafficking.
Ibrahim, who spoke in Makurdi during the inauguration of the Benue State Task Force on Human Trafficking stressed the need to strengthen joint efforts to stem the tide of the twin evils of human trafficking and irregular migration in Benue State and Nigeria.

“Almost all the states in Nigeria are affected by irregular migration and human trafficking but Benue State is endemic for trafficking of children for domestic servitude, exploitative labour in farms in the western part of Nigeria, and sexual exploitation in brothels, “she said.
The Director General of NAPTIP further explained that the Makurdi Zonal Command, which covers five states of Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, Kogi and Taraba since its establishment in 2013 had investigated a total of 375 cases, rescued 53 victims of trafficking and secured 45 convictions.
