The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 48 internet fraudsters from different locations of its Makurdi zonal office.
EFCC’s Makurdi zonal head of operations, Johnson Babalola, made the disclosure on Thursday at a press conference in Makurdi in Benue State.
“This zone (Benue, Nasarawa and Niger) embarked on thorough investigation and arrested 48 suspects,” he said.
Babalola noted that of the number, 13 suspects are being prosecuted while others are presently on various stages of investigation even as the commission secured separate three confessions from the suspects.
He said the zone was not relenting in the fight against the new face of financial crime commonly committed through Internet fraud – “yahoo yahoo”, as they continue to monitor those on FBI list.
He added that the activities of the Internet fraudsters had severely affected the integrity of Nigerians doing their legitimate business across nations of the world.
The zonal head further disclosed that the EFCC in collaboration with FBI and Interpol would rid the country of internet fraudsters, stressing however that the challenge required multi-sectoral approach to nip the trend in the bud.
