Hundreds of fans of the late popular Tiv traditional folk singer in Benue State, Pevkyaa Zegi, has commemorated his second year of demise at a sit out in his memory.
Our correspondent reports that Zegi died on November 2, 2018, at the age of 74.
The sit-out, which attracted many culture enthusiasts, was sponsored by the deceased’s fans including Principal Special Assistant to the Benue Governor on Culture and Tourism, Tahav Agerzua.
One of the late folk singer’s assistants, James Daniel, performed some of his master’s popular songs as well as new ones, which he composed as a memorial at the event.
The late Zegi was known for his penchant for singing about his friends and patrons who were long dead to project their heroic deeds while they lived to encourage the living to emulate their positive lifestyles for a better society.
Some of his songs also captured the aspirations of the common people including the agitation for the provision of critical infrastructure.
The career of the late Zegi, who hailed from Ukum Local Government of Benue State, spanned more than 50 years.
