The people of Odugbo in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State are excited over the recent siting of Federal College of Education (FCOE) in their rural community by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Benue/Plateau Trust reports that the federal government, few weeks ago, approved the creation of some tertiary institutions in the country among which was the FCOE sited in Odugbo, a community allegedly neglected to the backwaters of life as far as government presence was concerned.
But the action of the President has, no doubt, broadened smiles on the faces of not only the Idoma speaking rural populace, but the entire sons as well as daughters of Odugbo kingdom at home or in diaspora.
A statement by the National President of Odugbo National Development Association, Dr Godwin Adejor, applauded the federal government for establishing a higher institution of learning in their area.
“The establishment of the college would, in no small measure, impact positively on the manpower, economy and social development of Odugbo community and Benue State,” he said.
Adejor noted that the efforts of the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Arc. Sonny Echonu, towards ensuring the establishment of the school in Odugbo were worthy of commendation, stressing that it had become evidently clearer that the Buhari’s led administration was prepared to leave a lasting legacy for Nigerians.
The association also thanked Governor Samuel Ortom for providing the enabling environment for the take-off of the institution, and appealed to the state government to rehabilitate access roads linking Odugbo community to other neighbouring towns as well as provide portable drinking water for the people.
The people assured President Buhari of their support and cooperation towards ensuring that the mission and vision of the institution were achieved.
