Communities in Benue State are ready to domesticate the Federal Government’s policy on volunteerism for the betterment of national development.

The volunteers involving young people drawn from across various youth groups in communities of the 23 Local Government Areas of the state are expected to offer valuable services in different sectors of national life for the peace and development of the country.

The Commissioner of Youths and Sports, Comrade Ojema Ojotu, made this known in Makurdi during the advocacy campaign sensitisation/programme on volunteerism and the national policy on inclusive volunteerism for Nigeriafor the north central geopolitical zone.

A participant from Benue State, Ruth, said on completion of the workshop, she would make herself available to mobilise qualified young graduate teachers’ for the teeming displaced people in camps within her reach to offer children of school age learning opportunities.

Earlier, the acting Director of NNVS department, Barr. Emmanuel Ekwugha, explained that volunteerism had been identified as a veritable tool for national development as it benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer in particular by strengthening trust and purposefully creating opportunities for participation.
