But the APC in the state has severally alleged that the ruling PDP government in Benue was doing everything, including the recent dragging of Akume to anti-graft bodies, to discredit his chances for the position.
The PDP, on its part, averred that the documents at the state government’s disposal propelled the action which would help to acquaint the Benue people on how certain monies were allegedly taken away under the Minister’s watch when he was the governor between 1999 and 2007.
State Chairman-Elect of APC, Comrade Austin Agada, at a meeting during the weekend, urged officials to pray for Akume’s emergence as national chairman of the party.
He also asked for prayer to allow the APC to dislodge the ruling party in the state at the 2023 general elections.
“This meeting became crucial for us to interface with you because we cannot sleep until we completely displace PDP in 2023.
“We are prepared to match any strategy they bring forward to demarket our party.
“Work aggressively for the party like the election is the next day.
“Also pray for the leader of the party to become the National Chairman of the party to make the ride we are already enjoying smoother,” he said.
