Benin monarch suspends chief over assault on palace emissaries

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, yesterday suspended the Odionwere of Egbirhe, Mr. Napoleon Oduware Omobude and three others from attending palace activities as leaders of the village.

The others suspended alongside Odiowere were Vincent Ugiakha, Frederick Omo Igbinidu, and Patrick Obayuwana.

They were alleged to have assaulted palace officials sent by the Oba of Benin to demarcate the boundary between Egbirhe and Okhoromi communities.

They were said to have  also disobeyed the directive of the palace, which forbade them from having anything to do in the Elders Council Hall, Oguedion, in the village.

Oba Ewuare therefore directed the next-in-command, Mr. Douglas Igbinidu to assume the position of Odionwere with immediate effect, to be assisted by Chief Jolly Owie, Godwin Enodumwenben Omorotionmwan and Solomon Owie.
