The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, weekend, has said that he will establish judicial panel of enquiry to probe the alleged mismanagement of public funds and resources in the state during the past 12 years.
Bello, who disclosed this in Lokoja, during his address on the occasion of this year’s Independence Day Anniversary celebrations, saying that the panel would be headed by a retired justice of high integrity.
The panel, when established, would probe the tenures of former governors Ibrahim Idris (2003-2011) and Captain Idris Ichalla Wada (2011-2015).
He lamented that the “missed opportunities” in Kogi and all over Nigeria were traceable to poor leadership, adding: “Along our journey to greatness, we were derailed, not by a mechanical default but through deliberate acts of sabotage by those we hired to drive us to our desired future.
“The excellent  thing to do is to hold those who have done us wrong accountable for what they did in the past, while taking responsibility for our own actions, making sure that all we do in the present lead to positive change in the future.”
Bello lamented that the value systems of integrity, honesty, hard work, abhorrence for corruption and patriotism, which the nation’s founding fathers were known for, had been eroded over the years and replaced with dishonesty, indolence, unbridled corruption and widespread impunity.
He called on people of the state to embrace the “Change Begins with Me” initiative recently launched by President Muhammadu Buhari, by doing the right thing at their own level.
