The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Benin Electricity Distribution company (BEDC), Dr Henry Ajagbawa, has disclosed that the company needs N200 billion to meter customers in its franchise areas.
Dr Ajagbawa disclosed this Thursday while briefing journalists on his 100 days in office.
He said the company is desirous to meter customers in its franchise for improved revenue collection and do away with estimated billing.
“We need N200 billion to meter customers in our franchise of Edo, Delta, Ekiti and Ondo states. It is a huge resource but we have commenced metering,” he said.

He added that the company has commenced a performance-driven environment where staff are rewarded based on performance outside the normal salary, and it has been reflected in the monthly revenue collection of the company.
“This collection growth has been reflected in our monthly collection. In September, we collected N5.5 billion and climbed to N6.2 in October and N6.8 in November. This shows some level of customer satisfaction.”
He said they are looking for a creative solution that will help us deal with the long term problem that has been bedeviling us so that we can give steady electricity to the generality of our customers.
Ajagbawa explained that in order to increase its revenue base, it has commenced the reconnection of different communities that have been cut off from electricity in the franchise area.
He said BEDC has commenced enumeration of customers to revalidate its records to know the actual customers base of the company.
