Communities in Kaduna State have been urged to be their brothers’ keepers by extending a hand of help to poor families in their respective areas especially now that the country is faced with the coronavirus pandemic.
The appeal was made by leadership of the Masjid Salsabil Masjid and the Federation of Muslim Woman Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) during a joint distribution of palliatives to 126 poor homes in Kyauta community in Kaduna.
The Imam of the mosque, Tahir Ibrahim, called on well-meaning individuals to lend helping hands to their neighbours who find it hard to feed because of the pandemic.
“The leadership of the masjid decided to make the donation because of several calls from different quotas that government cannot help every individual household in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. So we tasked ourselves and with donations from FOMWAN and the Muslim World League, we were able to help 126 households in the community.
“Most of the beneficiaries are women, widows and orphans. We also helped some that have husbands, but because of the fact that people are not able to go out and make a living, they are unable to take care of their families. Allah has asked that we help our brothers the way He has helped us.
“We provided them with rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil and detergents, and we hope that with this little gesture, the families will have a little succor on their plights.”
He prayed to Allah to bring an end to the pandemic and called on the beneficiaries to pray for the country and the philanthropists.
Ameera, FOMWAN, Aisha Isyaku Tukur, said they decided to help the government by donating food to the masses so that they can abide by the lockdown order.
She said even though the association had shared food in other communities, it decided to come to Kyauta community because it discovered that there were many women and children in need of support.
She called on them to abide by the rules of the government and maintain personal hygiene.
Ameera of the Salsabil Women Association (SALWA), Khadija Abdulkareem, thanked the two associations for the support and ensured that the donations will be put to good use.
