Be ruthless with electoral offenders, ex-AIG tells security agencies

A former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ambrose Aisabor (Rtd), has charged security agencies to deal ruthlessly with electoral offenders.

Speaking with Daily Trust yesterday in Benin, Edo State, on the forthcoming February 25, and March 11, elections, Aisabor said the continued attacks on INEC facilities and party supporters showed that all the states in the country were flash points.

He said, “The 2023 general elections are less than two weeks away, but the level of electoral violence today is becoming very worrisome. It is time for the security agencies to wake up.

“Parties’ supporters have been attacked during campaigns across the country without consequences. If the security agencies cannot handle campaigns now, what will happen during the elections proper and its aftermath? Security must be ruthless with electoral offenders.”
